Generative Reconstruction of Intangible Cultural Heritage Soundscapes from the Perspective of Spatial Computing

Abstract

In response to the de-spatialization of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) sounds and the dissolution of the audience’s embodied perception during the digital dissemination of traditional media, this paper takes Gyalrong Tibetan polyphonic folk songs as an example to explore a generative reconstruction pathway for ICH soundscapes from the perspective of spatial computing. Through fieldwork, auditory, visual, and spatial data were collected and aligned using BeiDou Companion, Blender, and QGIS to construct a multimodal dataset. AIGC technology was introduced: after sound source separation, multimodal features were fused to perform generative modeling of a first-order Ambisonics sound field, and in combination with an acoustic propagation model, spatial reconstruction and binaural rendering were accomplished. Controlled experiments grounded in embodied theory demonstrate that the spatialized soundscape significantly outperforms traditional stereo in terms of immersion, cultural resonance, and physiological arousal. Consequently, this paper proposes an “embodied empathy” mechanism, offering a new research paradigm for the living transmission of ICH in the AI era.
