Ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) is the terminal manifestation of long-term myocardial ischemia, necrosis, and fibrosis caused by coronary artery disease, and its pathogenesis involves multiple modes of cell death. In recent years, the role of ferroptosis as an iron dependent, lipid peroxidation driven regulatory form of cell death in ICM has gradually been revealed. This article systematically reviews the molecular mechanisms of ferroptosis and its role in the occurrence and development of ICM, and explores potential therapeutic strategies targeting ferroptosis, aiming to provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of ICM.
